Deuteronomy 7:13 (NASB)
He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock, in the land which He swore to your forefathers to give you.
Bible Commentary:
Deuteronomy 7:13 is a Bible verse in the Old Testament packed with the promises of God.
In Chapter 7 of the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses is speaking to the children of Israel, God’s chosen people at that time. These were blessings He promised them for obeying His commandments or instructions.
You may wonder if these promises apply to you today. God provided Jesus Christ as a gift to mankind to reconcile us back to Himself. The Bible verse of John 3:16 tells us this.
If you have accepted God’s gift of His Son to be your Saviour, then you can read these promises of God with confidence that they are personally yours, all of them.
Jesus obeyed every command of God perfectly on our behalf, so that we could accept the gift of His covering or protection from the curse that went into effect when Adam and Eve sinned back in the Garden of Eden.
Think of what life would be like if we believed, received and lived in the full measure of the promises of God every day. We would be free from fear, worry and stress—the sickness of our souls.
Instead we would know the joy, peace and freedom of the abundant life that Jesus came to give us. We would be living in perfect harmony with God and with one another.
Unlocking the Truth – The Promises of God
There are 2 reasons why many of us live far short of these glorious promises of God. First, we are ignorant of their existence because we don’t seek the truth in the Bible and/or secondly, because we don’t believe them. By reading the Bible, we can discover God’s promises and by developing our relationship with God, we can increase our faith to believe them.
There are several Hebrew meanings of “love” in this verse: to have affection for (sexually or otherwise), be loved, like, friend. God is promising to love us, even affectionately. How does God do that if He is Spirit?
He does it through your spouse, your parents, your children and your friends. Recognize Him in the love you receive from your family.
Ask Him to love your spouse and family through you and for eyes to recognize it. You’ll be amazed!
An Act of Adoration
Some Hebrew meanings of the word “bless”: to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration), bless man (as a benefit), praise, thank.
It’s interesting that this word is defined as a blessing to God and to man. You see, we blessed God when we knelt as an act of submission and faith when we asked Jesus Christ to be our Saviour. That was an act of adoration and a blessing to Him.
Your praise and thanks also blesses Him, and He praises us in return. Ask God to open your eyes to how He praises you.
The Hebrew meanings of “multiply”: increase (in whatever respect), abundance, be in authority, continue, enlarge, excel, nourish, plenty.
I’m sure there are many areas of your life where you would enjoy being multiplied. He offers these promises to you, if you choose to receive them.
Study these promises of God in Deuteronomy 7:13, and believe that they are yours. You can be abundantly multiplied—nourished—in every area of your life. He is waiting for you to believe and receive.
