Bible Commentary

Psalm 19:4-5 is a passage from the Bible that describes the sounds in the heavens and how they travel through the earth.  Just like there are things God created that we cannot see with our human eyes, there are also sounds He created that we cannot discern with our human minds and ears. In John 3:8, Jesus told Nicodemus:

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

God revealed these secret wonders of Heaven to King David. To get a better understanding, let’s read the entire passage of Psalm 19:1-6.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
    whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

God is spirit, and His voice communicates in ways we don’t always understand. When we slow down and get quiet before Him, we can sometimes hear the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. He speaks from His spirit to ours. It might not necessarily be in words, but more of an understanding or a knowledge we simply receive without hearing the actual words.

The Things of the Kingdom

We might not realize it, but He communicates this way continually. Like the wind that blows, we don’t see or comprehend where it comes from, but we see and feel its effects. God desires for us to hear from Him with understanding.  When He has molded and healed our hearts to the degree that we are ready to receive and acknowledge Him, He can then communicate the things of His Kingdom to us.

Let’s look again at Psalm 19:4-5.

Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,

God is telling us that in the midst of His voice that moves continually through the earth, He has placed a special stream, if you will, that houses a brightness–an understanding–of Who He is and the things of His Kingdom, which He promised to us. Remember Psalm 23:6.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

When we are ready, He comes to us in the revelation of Who He is as our Heavenly Father and brings to us the things of His House. It is not something we can strive for and grasp, but a gift we simply receive as we wait upon the Lord.  Many times, we hear Him in the night as we lay in the stillness and quietness of our bed. He tells us of the good things He longs to give us as He places those dreams in our hearts, and then we can move forward in hope and joy, hand in hand with Him.

As we walk that path together with Him, He leads us to the fruition of the promises of His Kingdom. Blessed be His Glorious Name! “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32

Study Psalm 19:4-5 and discover the things of the Kingdom together with the Lord. Amen.
