2 Corinthians 3:6 is a Bible verse where the Apostle Paul teaches us the immense difference between the law of the Old Testament, and the grace of the Holy Spirit of the New Testament.

In this chapter, Paul makes clear that the old way of doing things—all the laws and rules of the Old Testament—have been washed away in Jesus Christ, and that God has made us servants of the new covenant.

The new covenant he talks about is grace by the power of the Holy Spirit. The blood of Jesus Christ paid the penalty of death that God required, and as a result the new covenant (the New Testament) was created.

Jesus said in John 14:16, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;”

As Christians, we may not always be aware of the Presence of the Holy Spirit, but we would definitely know it if He departed from us. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about being separated from His Presence, because Jesus Christ told us He would be with us forever.

Praise God that His Son, Jesus Christ, reconciled us back into the good graces of the Father. If not, we would be undone by His wrath.

It is only by the Holy Spirit that we are adequate servants of the new covenant, just as Paul said in 2 Corinthians 3:6.

You might wonder how to be a servant of God. Maybe you haven’t recognized or used the gifts God has given you in a church setting or ministry. That’s okay. Most likely, He is using you right where you are.

That doesn’t mean He won’t lead you to join and/or serve in a church or traditional ministry, but be aware that as a Christian, you are a servant of God already. And not only a servant, but an adequate servant.

The Greek meaning for “adequate” or “able” is: to enable, qualify. The blood that Christ shed for us makes us qualified. When we accepted His gift of atonement for our sins, the power of the Holy Spirit came in to dwell with us…forever. We are enabled by the power of His blood.

So what does 2 Corinthians 3:6 means when it says that we are adequate servants of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit?
