1 John 5:12 (NASB)
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Bible Commentary
1 John 5:12 is a simple Bible verse from the New Testament that describes the difference between the saved and the lost.
Salvation is very simple, yet we make it so complicated.
If we have accepted Christ in our hearts and asked Him for forgiveness, we are saved. If we have not accepted Christ we are not saved. It’s that simple. So the question is: If it’s that simple why do so many people struggle with knowing if they are really saved, or they believe they are saved, but are afraid they can lose their salvation.
First we need to realize we cannot earn our salvation. It is a gift from God through His grace. We cannot be good enough, pray enough, read our Bible enough—there is NOTHING we can do to earn salvation!
Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;”
Ephesians tells us that grace is how we have been saved through our faith (taking God’s word for it) and not from anything we can do ourselves. I think the reason so many people struggle with their salvation is they don’t know the true meaning of the word grace.
Here is the best definition I’ve ever seen for grace (from www.Carm.org).
Biblically, grace is unmerited favor. It is God’s free action for the benefit of His people. It is different from justice and mercy. Justice is getting what we deserve. Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we do not deserve. In grace we get eternal life, something that, quite obviously, we do not deserve, but because of God’s love and kindness manifested in Jesus on the Cross, we receive the great blessing of redemption.
You see, salvation is not something we deserve; it is not owed to us. It’s God’s gift to us and the ONLY thing He asks of us is that we simply receive it.
Stop believing the lie of Satan! If you have accepted the gift of salvation, then You Are Saved!
Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.”
Unlocking the Truth – Your Salvation is Secure
Second, You Cannot Lose Your Salvation!
To believe you can lose your salvation is like telling Jesus that His life was not good enough to fully and completely save you. You are basically saying “God I know You are all powerful and the Creator of all, but you are not powerful enough to keep me from losing my salvation.” It’s kind of silly when we really stop and think about it.
1 John 5:13 says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
John 10:28-30, “and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
I love how Christ states our eternal salvation, “they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
Rest in the word of God. Your Salvation is Secure! There is no one greater than God, and that means no one (including you) can take away the salvation God has given to you as a believer!!!
1 John 5:12-13, “He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
