Psalm 43:3 (NASB)

King David needs help overcoming fear of his enemies, and in the Bible verse of Psalm 43:3, he is praying that God would send out His light and truth, that his hope in God could be restored.

Have you ever been wronged by someone—a boss, a co-worker, even a friend or a loved one? We all have felt the sting of oppression at some point in our lives. Someone spoke an unkind thing or even lied about us, or worse.

That’s what King David was crying out to God about. He was feeling oppression from his enemies, whom he called deceitful and unjust men. We live in a world full of them. At times, it seems hopeless.

That’s where David was. Though he was a King with great power and all the riches he could ever want, he felt hopeless. He knew God was the only answer to his situation.

Where do you turn when you’re in a hopeless situation? King David turned to God. Listen to what he says in Psalm 43:5,

“Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me?

Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.”

David knew that even though he felt hopeless, that God would answer his cry. He had turned to God many times before and God had rescued him. And he knew his God was faithful to rescue him again.

Unlocking the Truth – Hope

When we look back at our lives to remember God’s answer to our prayers from the past, it strengthens our present. It gives us hope. God heard and answered before, and He will hear and answer now.

In Psalm 43:3 David asked God to send out His light and His truth, so that he could see them. Pray that same prayer and ask God to show you His faithfulness in your life, and in your past.

The word “light” in Psalm 43:3 has several Hebrew meanings: illumination, lightning, happiness, bright, morning, sun.

In hopeless situations, God knows we need to see the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. He provides it when you ask Him.

The word “truth” in Psalm 43:3 also has several Hebrew meanings: stability, certainty, trustworthiness, faithful, right, sure, true.

It wouldn’t do any good to have hope in something that wasn’t true. David asked for light and truth. We should do the same. God is faithful.

King David knew his victory over his enemies was in God alone. He asked God to lead him to His holy hill and to His dwelling places, where he could feel nearer to God.

There is no greater peace and joy than being in His Presence, which doesn’t necessarily mean a physical place, but the place in our souls—our hearts and minds where the Holy Spirit dwells.

Let’s ask for more awareness of His Presence, for that’s where we find hope and peace. It’s worth the effort to find a quiet place to be alone with God for a while.

Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” We find peace when we seek Him with all our heart. He loves us.
