Psalm 42:8Pg2
Psalm 42:8 (ESV) By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
continued…
He gets more of a bird’s eye view of his situation in Psalm 42:6-7 as he recounts what has happened.
My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.
He recognizes that his focus has been somewhere other than God, most likely on the problem he is facing. The enemy was successful in distracting his attention away from God, and he got caught up in all the noise and activity of the world.
The breakers and waves are very loud and can easily drown out the sound of the Lord’s still small voice. When we’re in a crisis, the sounds of fear, anxiety and stress become deafening and we get sucked underneath the waves, like we’re drowning. It is a time like this that we either turn to God, or away from Him.
Finally, the Psalmist stops and considers God’s faithfulness and acknowledges His Presence in his life in Psalm 42:7.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
God Commands His Love
If we believe God, then we know His hand is in all things as the Bible tell us in Romans 8:28. God is not only with us continually, but He commands His steadfast love toward us.
No authority in heaven or earth can refute God’s steadfast love toward us. Our Creator, the God of Heaven and earth, commands it.
Hallelujah!
Even at night God’s song is with us. Have you ever woke up during the night and heard a song playing ever-so-faintly in your head? God speaks to us constantly if we will only listen for His still, small voice.
How comforting to picture choirs of angels singing over us (even as we sleep) because God commands His love toward us.
However, our dialogue must be two-way. He speaks to us, and He desires for us to speak to Him. He is a Person, and He craves our companionship.
Life on earth takes on a whole new dimension when God is our Continual Guide and Best Friend. He is our Creator and Mentor. No one could ever love you more.
