John 10:28 is a Bible verse in the New Testament where Jesus Christ describes the blessings of His sheep who follow Him.
In this passage, Jesus is addressing the Jews who did not believe He was the Christ. They were skeptical, suspicious and jealous, afraid of losing some of their own honor and authority among the people. Their jealousy and fear of losing impeded their view of Jesus’ miraculous works.
In John 10:25-30, Jesus says, 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you, 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.”
The Jews had a choice of what to believe, just like we do today. Jesus implored them to at least believe the works that He did, which testified of the Father. If they would come around to accepting the fact He did miracles for the good of the people, maybe they would then accept Him and believe He was the Christ. And then maybe they would know for certain that there is a God in Heaven Who loves them.
Unlocking the Truth – Eternal Life
But instead of pursuing the truth, which was the righteousness of Jesus’ works, they chose a path of pride and jealousy, selfishly clinging to their own little world of whatever status they had mustered up for themselves.
They missed it—what a pity! The things they so carefully guarded in their lives were rubbish compared to what Jesus Christ offered them. Jesus said in John 10:28, “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish…”
If you study the Greek meanings of “life” you’ll see: breath, spirit, soul, vitality. This is not just for later when we’re in Heaven, but for here and now.
