Let’s look at the Hebrew meaning for the word “light” in Isaiah 60:20, which is: illumination, lightning, happiness; bright, clear, morning, sun.
It might be startling to suddenly remember a painful experience from your past, but the lightning fast rays of God’s light dispels it in an instant. In the place where there was sorrow or grief, God grants bright happiness, as clear as the morning sun.
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” (John 11:25).
Everlasting Light
The everlasting light spoken of in Isaiah 60:20 is a resurrection of our souls, which have lived in the stagnation of death and darkness.
We don’t even recognize that our souls are in this state until we get a taste of God’s love personally, for example, in a time of worship through music. Oh, how we yearn for His love to flow continually.
The most exciting part of Isaiah 60:20 is His promise of permanence: “the Lord shall be thine everlasting light.” Hallelujah!
Psalm 116:8 says, “For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears…”
Let’s joyfully and expectantly receive His promise of everlasting light with thanksgiving! Amen!
