…peer into the depths of our heart. He is eager to provide a gentle, loving Hand as we walk with Him.

Remember the word “restore” means to bring back to health, strength. God wants us to be healthy and strong in our souls because it produces health in every part of our lives, particularly in our relationships—with Him and with others.

That health is dependent upon our spiritual condition–the righteousness in our souls. That’s why David uses the words healing and righteousness in the same verse. They go together.

As we become like Jesus Christ along His path of  righteousness, we come to know Him more intimately and our devotion for Him grows. We gain reverence for His Name.

The verse just prior to this one, Psalm 23:2 says, “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” Here God paints a pleasant picture of serenity in our minds, which evokes a calm peace in our emotions.

Prosperity in Righteousness

Some Hebrew meanings for the word “righteousness” in Psalm 23:3 are: right (natural, moral or legal), equity, prosperity.

Like a loving Father, He desires for us to live in righteousness (in emotional and mental health), so He can prosper us. That is why He sent His Son to die for us. Note also the word “paths”. God’s way of teaching us righteousness is a process. It is a journey.

When we accept Christ and submit our life to Him, we embark upon a wonderful adventure where there are paths of peace and joy, struggle and difficulty, but great victory, with beautiful surprises intermingled through it all.

When we become spiritually healthy, we can experience health in every area of our life. And this brings glory to His Great Name.
