Bible Commentary

Psalm 46:5 is a Bible verse from the Old Testament that states a promise of strength for the bride of Christ, the church.

There are several verses in Psalm 46 that remind us that God is our refuge, strength and our help in times of trouble. Verse 5 gives us more specifics as to how God helps and when the relief will come. Let’s take a look.

God is in the midst of her.

You can see from Psalm 46:4 that God is speaking about the tabernacle of the Most High, which is His dwelling place.

“There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.”

The Holy Spirit dwells in each of us who have received Jesus Christ as our Savior. Together, we make up this tabernacle that He is building in the spiritual realm.

While He is constructing His tabernacle, it is quite uncomfortable or even painful when He arranges, hammers, and molds together the pieces in just the right places. That’s why we feel stretched like a rubber band or like a fish out of water at times. He is doing a mighty work as he builds within us and among us.

Then Psalm 46:5 reminds us that because God is in the midst of us, we will not be moved. “Moved” in Hebrew means: slip, shake, fall, be out of course, be fallen in decay. It may feel like we’re being hammered to pieces or stretched beyond our ability, but God says we shall not be moved.

Psalm 91:7 says,

“A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.”

It might feel like the world is crumbling around us, but we are steadfast in the arms of Jesus Christ.

Unlocking the Truth – Break of Dawn

Lastly, Psalm 46:5 tells us when we will get relief, “God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.”

Stay focused on Him when the outlook is bleak and gray, and you are at your wit’s end. Morning is coming. The sun will rise with the new mercies of God.

Lamentations 3:22-23

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

How quickly things can change, just like the dawn of a new day. Don’t lose hope. Tomorrow will be here soon. Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free (Galatians 5:1). I recently heard a famous business speaker give an inspirational talk, and he summed up his last session with a quote from Helen Keller.

“Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.”

God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). Hang on to God until the morning. He will help you, just at the break of dawn. Study the Bible verse of Psalm 46:5, and be encouraged by God’s provision of strength and faithfulness.
