John 7:38 (KJV)
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
John 7:38 is a Bible verse from the New Testament where Jesus Christ is declaring empowerment of the Holy Spirit upon those who believe in Him.
To put this verse in context, let’s look at the passage of John 7:37-39.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
It is interesting that Jesus invited any man to come unto Him and drink. Not just the Jews, not just those in authority, but anyone.
The word “drink” in the Greek means: imbibe, which is defined in Webster’s like this: to receive into the mind and retain. How does a person drink something into their minds? What does Jesus mean when He said If any man thirst?
Jesus is the Answer
Have you ever questioned your purpose or wondered what you were put on earth for? Have you ever been thirsty in your soul or your heart, but nothing ever seems to quench it or completely satisfy it?
We all have. Jesus is our answer.
In John 7:38 Jesus speaks of rivers of living water. That sounds like something that could quench an age-old thirst!
From the Greek meanings of the words living water, we could also call it: healing rain. But this healing rain does more than just fall down upon our bodies; it cleans, heals and soothes our souls.
It heals us from the torture of all the fear and doubt that have followed us around all our lives, and in their place we receive peace and wholeness—a supernatural healing in our minds, our hearts and our emotions—to the very depths of our soul.
These living waters then flow outward to our physical bodies, and then reach beyond us to others.
