Song of Solomon 8:7 (KJV)
Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.
Bible Commentary
Song of Solomon 8:7 is a Bible verse from the Old Testament that illustrates the power of love.
There are three kinds of love talked about in the Bible:
· agapao (love) – Sacrificial love, which is what God showed by sending His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins.
· phileo (friendship) – Love of a loyal friend
· eros (erotic) – This word is used to express sexual love or the feelings of arousal that are shared between people who are physically attracted to one another.
All three of these are quite powerful, as they all come from a very powerful God, Who is love. (1 John 4:8)
The first part of Song of Solomon 8:7 says, “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it…”
God’s love, desire and affection for His bride (the church) is unending, ever-moving, without stopping. It does not dry up, does not wither, is not turned aside, nor does it hide. It is a constant flow, like a powerful river flowing down a mountainside.
Unlocking the Truth – Love and Affection
No matter how effective the enemy (Satan) has been in causing the ugliness of sexual impurity with his lies of deceit and spiritual strongholds, God is all-knowing and all-powerful. His mercies (the love of forgiveness) are greater than any demonic stronghold.
It doesn’t matter how far we may have gone down the wrong road of sexual immorality, God can restore all things (Joel 2:25). His grace is far greater than any guilt, lie or condemnation we have experienced.
