Psalm 19:7 is a Bible verse from the Old Testament where King David points us to the absolute and infallible Word of God. Those who are the biggest fans of the Word of God are those who study it regularly. David was one of those people.

The reason we hear many Christians quoting Bible verses is because they are deeply meaningful to them. When we are changed or healed from the inside out, we are compelled to share it with others. It’s better than winning a championship game. We want the whole world to know because what was life-changing for us can be life-changing for them, too. That’s what David is doing in Psalm 19:7 when he says,

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

The word “law” in Hebrew translates to: a precept or statute; to flow as water (that is, to rain), to teach, to point out (as if by aiming the finger).

God stated clearly many times in the Bible, but specifically in Deuteronomy chapter 26, all the blessings available to us by following His statutes and conversely, the chastisement for disobedience. We have a choice.

He gave us many examples of those who obeyed, and those who didn’t. If we don’t recognize it in our own lives, we can see the effects of obedience and the effects of disobedience upon those in the Bible.

David tells us by his own experience that the law of the Lord is perfect (blameless). We cannot go wrong (in God’s eyes) by following His commands, because His commands are perfect, just as He is.

God’s law flows like water, like rain, upon those who follow it, just like the above Hebrew definition states. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” So in essence, if we’re following God’s’ law, it is God Who flows like rain upon us and teaches us.

In other words, if we’re seeking God’s Word, we’re seeking Him, and there is no better Teacher!

Unlocking the Truth – Reviving the Soul

Let me bring your attention to the word “reviving” in the first part of Psalm 19:7,

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;

Webster’s defines “revive” like this: 1) to return to life or consciousness; 2) to return to health or vigor; 3) to come or bring back into use, attention, popularity, etc.

If we want greater prosperity in our lives, we must start on the inside…our souls, where our thoughts and feelings live.

“Soul” in Hebrew means: breath, vitality, desire, mind, mortality.

If we need clearer thinking, greater youth and vitality or righteous desires, it starts in our souls. David tells us right there in Psalm 19, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.”

God is the Great I Am, a Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, our Protector and Provider. He is able! What do you need? Better yet, what do you want?!

He is able.

Don’t settle for the status quo, the way things have always been, or the way things are now. God is able to do above and beyond what we could ever ask or think!

–Where our soul (our breath) lies dormant, it can be revived.

–Where our hearts are like stone, they can be revived.

–Where our thoughts are negative or indifferent, they can be revived.

–Where our bodies are wasting away with age or sickness, they can be revived.

Read Ezekiel 37, and be inspired by the Word of God. Ezekiel was not only a witness, but a participant in breathing life into a valley of dry bones! It’s an amazing story that God gives us in His Word to open our eyes to what is possible in Him.

Don’t go another day “settling for” what has always been, or what is. God calls you to revival, new breath and new life in Jesus Christ! Be a participant in breathing new life into your own life and into the lives of those around you.

Study the Bible verse of Psalm 19:7, and let the light of God’s law revive your soul, your heart and mind in Jesus Christ. Amen!
