Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV)
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Bible Commentary
Jeremiah 29:13 is a Bible verse from the Old Testament that reminds us to put our hope in God alone.
We can fool ourselves quite easily into thinking that God is first in our hearts. We want to (and we intend to) keep Him first. Our actions display it as we go through the routine of our daily devotion time and attending church.
We have a burden for righteousness to win out and for evil to be defeated. We love God and pray frequently, and we minister to others and teach Biblical principles to our children.
Sometimes it takes a jolt to wake us up to a deeper truth hidden in our hearts. Psalm 43:3 says, “O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me…”
In Jesus Christ, we are all winners–perfect and polished under His blood. Yet we seek God to continually develop and become more like Christ, which is God’s command in Jeremiah 29:13, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
The longer we seek Christ the more truth He reveals, which is more of Himself. There are times when the brightness of His reflection uncovers something in us that had been hidden in the dark, which must be pushed out of its hiding place.
That’s when the scalpel comes out.
Unlocking the Truth – Finding Him
“For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
As our hearts conform more and more to look like His, the scalpel must do its meticulous work in the Spirit to delicately cut away little pieces of our hearts to surgically remove the things that don’t look like His.
Though it can be very uncomfortable or even painful, He is ever so gentle in His work.
He adores your commitment in cultivating faithfulness toward Him. He is rewarding you, though at times it does not feel like it. Psalm 24:5 says,
“He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.”
When healing takes place, we reflect the beauty of His righteousness, His purity and truth. Then we will enjoy the peaceable fruit of righteousness because we have come face-to-face with Him, and lived. 2 Corinthians 4:6 says,
“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
