Bible Commentary

Deuteronomy 33:27b is a Bible verse in the Old Testament where Moses gave his last blessing to God’s people before his death. We already looked at the first portion of this verse, studying the comfort and strength of God’s everlasting arms.

Not only does God offer the embrace of his everlasting arms of mercy and comfort, but He also permanently secured our protection and victory by thrusting out the enemy from before us and destroyed him.

Let’s look at who our enemy is. In Hebrew, “enemy” in Deuteronomy 33:27b means: hate, adversary, hostile.

From the very beginning back in the Garden of Eden, the serpent—the devil—has planned and schemed to divide and destroy the pleasant and rich relationship God enjoyed with His people. He is still at work today, working to deceive, divide and destroy marriages, families, communities and entire nations.

The spiritual forces stirring up all the evil in the world today are nothing more than Satan and his armies hindering us with lies, trickery and deceit to keep us from knowing the truth of our victory over him through Christ.

In the previous Bible Commentary, we mentioned that the phrase “everlasting arms,” in Deuteronomy 33:27a references the following: He subdues the ancient gods, and shatters the forces of old.

Victory Over the Devil, Our Enemy

God already shattered the forces of old—the devil himself and all his dominion—through Jesus Christ.

Revelation 12:9 says, “And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”

Jesus, speaking of his impending death on the cross, said in John 12:31, “Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.”

God gave us the victory through Christ to receive a new dominion—a victorious one—the Kingdom of God. He said in Deuteronomy 33:27b that He thrust out the enemy and said “Destroy.”

Christ taught us to pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”

Then why, you might ask, is there still havoc and destruction here on earth? Could it be because of our unbelief and ignorance of the truth? Our disregard for God and the Bible, coupled with a lack of faith, are extremely costly.

We Must Take What Christ Won for Us

God, the Father, offers us victory through faith in Christ. We must believe and receive the gift. We must take what is ours.

Hebrews 4:11 (KJV) says, “Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”

We are so easily distracted by the things of the world that we don’t take the time to focus on the promises of God in the Bible. Jesus said we could move mountains by a tiny amount of faith (Matthew 17:20).

Faith produces miracles. With God, all things are possible. Why then, with a big faith can’t we take the kingdom of God from the devil and his dominion? It belongs to us in Christ, but he has deceived us into believing he’s still in charge!

How small is our faith! How blind are our eyes! Revelation 3:17 says, “Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked–”

Let’s wake up and take hold of the victory in the Kingdom of God!

Study the Bible verse of Deuteronomy 33:27b to establish your faith that your enemy, the devil, has been destroyed.
