Bible Commentary
Psalm 37:4 is the world’s oldest secret to finding everything we want in life. Everything we want and need is in Jesus Christ. He died to give it to us. The key is this: Delight yourself in the Lord. That puts the responsibility upon us. He didn’t say He would do it. He told us to.
The word “delight” is defined like this: give great pleasure; be highly pleased; rejoice.
So how do we delight ourselves in the Lord?
First, like any other relationship we enjoy, we must spend quality time alone with Him, talking to Him in prayer and then listening to Him (by reading the Bible). It’s difficult to delight in someone if we don’t know them. Get to know the Lord. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you, and then expect to see Him. This alone is a delight!
Secondly, rejoice in Him, which simply means to thank Him for the blessings in our lives. We have far more blessings and good things than we realize. As we begin searching them out to give Him thanks, we discover more and more. He delights in giving good things to His children, and as we praise Him with thanksgiving, sometimes He reveals to us that we already have what we have been seeking. We just didn’t see it before. Another delight!
What a treat to see Psalm 37:4 come to life right in front of our eyes!
“Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Unlocking the Truth – Let It Rain
We discussed the power of worship in the Bible Commentary of Psalm 34:3. Thanksgiving turns into praise, which turns into worship, which becomes an attitude and way of life. It is so pleasing to God when His children look up to Him with a thankful heart. As we delight ourselves in the Lord, He delights in us as well, and our gifts are multiplied.
Zephaniah 3:17 says, “…He will rejoice over you with singing.” It’s an amazing thing to realize the song that is playing in your head is the Lord singing over you. He speaks to us in so many ways!
When our heart is tuned into Him, delighting in Him, He delights in us. Many of our problems can be resolved simply by looking for something to be thankful for, and lifting our praise up to the Lord.
We might not feel thankful at first, but as we discipline ourselves in this, it’s like priming the pump. Soon the water is flowing freely. Let it rain!
The Lord has so many gifts for us, and He longs to bestow the best of them upon His children. Let’s not let one go to waste.
Let’s delight in the Lord, and watch Him give us the desires of our hearts. Study the Bible verse of Psalm 37:4 and know great pleasure in the Lord.
