Psalm 145:8 is a Bible verse from a song of praise that King David wrote, glorifying God for His mercy and grace toward us. David wrote many songs like this because he was inspired by God’s love. He walked closely with God and knew His mercy personally in his life.

There was so much gratitude in David’s heart that it bubbled over into his writing and singing. He was so assured of God’s love that he was compelled to share it with others. If you read Psalm 145:8 and the entire Psalm, you can see there was great joy in his words. He spoke (or wrote) from his heart.

Wouldn’t you like to know God’s abounding love for you like David?

The Bible tells us to pray for more of the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). Maybe you have already done that, but you haven’t noticed a difference.

Sometimes, God has to move something out of our heart to make more room for Him. Have you ever cared about someone very deeply, but they didn’t return those feelings? That’s how God feels.

Unlocking the Truth – Steadfast Love

He has an abounding love toward us, but His heart has been broken by His people. We must ask ourselves, do we pray to God to receive things from Him, or to receive Him?

We humans are generally very selfish, yet the Lord is gracious and merciful, just as Psalm 145:8 says.

Psalm 103:13-14 (KJV) says, “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

God is love—abounding, steadfast love (1 John 4:8).

·         The word “abounding” means: to be plentiful, to be rich.

·         The word “steadfast” means: firm, fixed, constant.

God’s love toward you is plentiful and rich, and it is constant. It doesn’t change, no matter what.

That all sounds good, and we might quickly read over this Bible Commentary and go on to the next thing if we don’t take the time to really take it in, and believe it.

Just as We Are

When we believe God’s love for us is rich, plentiful, abounding and fixed, then it is easier for us to love Him. If we’re not afraid of His disapproval, we can approach Him in confidence and without hesitation.

When the ministry of Jesus Christ had grown and He was healing people and teaching with great wisdom and power, throngs of people were following Him, seeking to see the miracles. His disciples, who had spent a lot of time with Him, followed Him, not just because of the miracles He performed, but because they knew and loved Him. And they knew He loved them.

Mark 4:35-36 says, “On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” ³⁶ And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was.”

The disciples took Him with them in the boat, just as He was. Not because He was Someone Who could do something for them. They wanted to be with Him because they loved Him.

That’s how God wants us to know Him—personally, intimately. To know God is to love Him.

After all, that’s the way He knows us, whether we are aware of it or not. Spend some time with God every day, and get to know Him. You will soothe His heart that longs for you.
