Philippians 4:6 is an important Bible verse that teaches us how to give up worry and embrace the peace of God. It states:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Once we become anxious and confused, we allow those feelings to take up the space in our lives where God belongs. Thus, our feelings become ruler over our emotions instead of God.
Philippians 4:6 tells us to take everything to God in prayer. Not just the big…but the small, the medium, everything. God wants to help us in all situations, but we must include Him.
By prayer and supplication: Prayer is simply our conversation with God, but supplication means to directly ask God to do something. God already knows our prayers and supplications before we ask them; still, He waits for us to make our requests known through prayer before granting what we ask.
With thanksgiving: It is hard to come to God with a thankful heart when we are hurting, but this is the key to prayer. Finding reasons to be thankful gets us in the right spirit to approach God with our prayer requests. By being thankful, we go from just complaining about our situation to truly asking the Lord to help us.
Study Philippians 4:6 and the next time you feel anxious, nervous or confused about the situation you are in, don’t try to fix it by yourself…include God. Go to Him with a thankful heart and confidently ask Him to help you and then faithfully watch Him work in your life.
Lord, thank you that we can bring our needs to You, the big, the small and everything in between. Father, take away our anxiousness and replace it with Your peace. Help us to see our lives the way that You do and give us the vision You have for us. Lord, increase our faith and supply us with the confidence we need to fulfill the will You have for us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
