Mark 11:24 (NASB)

Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.

Bible Commentary

Mark 11:24 is a Bible verse in the New Testament where Jesus is teaching us how to stretch our faith and live the abundant life He made available to us.

It is very interesting that Jesus said we should believe that we have received them. The word “received” is past tense, as if it had already happened.

This instruction in Mark 11:24 indicates that the abundant life He promised us has already been built in the spiritual world if we can just reach past the physical world, by believing.

Look at the two verses just prior to this one. Mark 11:22-23, “And Jesus answered saying to them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.”

Faith shakes things up and makes things happen. And when we pray, believing it has already been done no matter what the facts are, then we have generated motion in the spiritual realm.

Like a duck swimming on top of the water, we don’t see his feet paddling, but he is making a current under the surface of the water, which propels him forward.

Unlocking the Truth-You Have Already Received

And when we combine strong faith with thanksgiving or praise, it creates a powerful motion in the unseen, so that it is only a matter of time before what we pray for will surface.

  • If you are sick, thank God for health. (1 Peter 2:24)
  • If you are poor, thank God for wealth. (Psalm 23:1)
  • If you are lonely, thank God for companionship. (John 15:15)
  • If you are afraid, thank God for peace and courage. (Psalm 34:4)

Matthew 21:22 says, “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

However, be prepared for obstacles.

Your faith will be tested. You will see evidence that will try to convince you to give up believing–that your faith isn’t strong enough or it isn’t working.

Don’t give up!

Stand strong and ask Christ to give you more faith. Mark 11:24 says to believe as if it already was.

No matter how persuasive the evidence is, keep believing (Galatians 5:1). Perseverance grows our faith even stronger and we gain confidence, but even more exciting, we gain momentum.

Our strong faith makes the devil tremble, for he knows it is a shield he cannot penetrate (Ephesians 6:16).

Remember, God is with you in your faith journey. When you falter, ask Him to help you believe (Mark 9:24).

Study the Bible verse of Mark 11:24, and practice reaching into the abundant life Jesus promised us, by believing.
