Genesis 22:17Pg2
That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

…obey God. Abraham knew God could bring his son back to life, even though he didn’t know if He would. It still must have been very difficult to make that journey to the mountain.But before Abraham could slay his son with the knife that was in his hand, God called out to him. “And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” Genesis 22:12
Abraham’s willingness to obey and give up his only son was enough for God. That’s when the blessing occurred:
Genesis 22:16-17 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
Sometimes the gifts God gives us become more important to us than God Himself, and we need an adjustment in our priorities. Or maybe He simply wants us to share our gifts.
Whatever the reason, we can trust that He has good in mind–for us and for others. We mustn’t let fear of being without prevent us from the greater blessing God wants for us.
If we are holding onto something too tightly, we might lose out on the promotion God has for us. It might seem like a demotion at first, but remember Abraham’s willingness.
More importantly, remember the cross.
A Friend of God
Christ gave up His life for you and me. God gave us the best He had to give—His only Son (John 3:16). How can we not freely give Him back what He asks of us? Not just for the greater blessings, but because we love Him. Because He first loved us.
Because He is our Friend and we are His.
Don’t be afraid to give up your very life, if that’s what God asks. There is great freedom in the willingness. There is something beautiful in the decision of sacrifice—the humility of Jesus Christ.
The devil has no more hold over us when we’re willing to give Christ our very lives. We come to realize that He is God, and we are not. He is our Father, and He takes care of us whether it’s here on earth or in Heaven.
His love knows no bounds.
