Bible Commentary

1 Corinthians 2:16 is one of the simplest statements, but one of the most profound scriptures and promises of God in the Bible—we have the mind of Christ.

What an amazing statement and promise of God! Have you ever read that and just meditated on the wonder of it? Can we actually have the mind of Christ in our daily lives?

This definition is very important to know, and you might be surprised. The Hebrew meanings of “mind” are: the intellect, that is, mind (divine or human; in thought, feeling or will).

We have the Feelings and Will of Jesus Christ

We have access to the mind of Christ, which includes more than just His thoughts, but also His feelings and His will! Desires and feelings begin with a thought, so this makes perfect sense. Since Jesus Christ overcame the world (John 16:33), that means we can, too.

As a Christian, the Holy Spirit lives within us, so we have the power to overcome any negative thought, feeling or mood, or fleshly temptation. We have the mind of Christ, like 1 Corinthians 2:16 says!

However, the wonder of that priceless gift does us absolutely no good if we 1) don’t know about the promise, 2) don’t believe the promise,  or 3) don’t know Christ as our Saviour.

Let’s look at the story in Mark about Jesus and the bread and fish.

Mark 8:4-9, “And His disciples answered Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?” And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”
