1 Corinthians 13:7 is a popular Bible verse in the New Testament where Paul is describing the actions of love.

As we mentioned before, the whole chapter of 1 Corinthians 13 is a complete definition of love, which actually describes God. 1 John 4:16 says, “…God is love.”

If God is love, then the actions Paul is describing in 1 Corinthians 13:7 are what God does for us every day. Looking at it a different way, and maybe you’ll be able to receive God’s love better with this understanding:

Jesus Christ bore the weight of the cross. And on that cross was the curse—the entire curse God put into effect upon the earth and mankind when Adam and Eve sinned. The body of Jesus became the curse upon the cross.

I’d like to encourage you to read 1 Corinthians 13:7 this way, with that in mind: Love…bore all things, believed all things, hoped all things, endured all things.

If you’ve ever had a hard time receiving the mercy and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, read the above again with your sin in mind. He already bore it on the cross and endured it for you, so you wouldn’t have to bear the weight of it. He was willing and courageous enough to bear the torture and punishment upon His body. Don’t let His suffering be in vain. Accept the gift for which He sacrificed so much.

Believe His mercy and grace are for you.

Unlocking the Truth – Weight of the Cross

If you look at the Greek meaning of the word “bear” from 1 Corinthians 13:7, it means: to roof over, to cover with silence.

Wow, that says a lot, doesn’t it? He covers our life like a roof covers and protects our home. He bears the noise of our guilt and doubt. He does not throw them in our face and bring them to mind. It’s the devil who does that–he is the accuser.

Not to say we shouldn’t accept responsibility and repent, but once we accept God’s mercy, our sins are forgiven and gone. Don’t let them follow you around. Believe they’re gone and hold firm to the truth.

Christ, Our Covering

Also important to know are the Greek meanings for the word “endure” in 1 Corinthians 13:7, which are: to stay under (behind), fortitude, persevere, abide, tarry behind.

Not only does Christ cover you like a roof, but He is underneath you, abides with you, and tarries behind you. You are completely surrounded and safe in His love.

He not only covers us, but lives in us. That is a love no man can imitate. He wants so much to be with us, that He paid a horrific penalty for every ugly thing we’ve ever done or thought, just so He could be with us, and we could be with Him.

That’s true love.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, He lives inside our very soul. There is no greater intimacy than that.

But we can’t enjoy that special bond if we don’t believe it, or accept it. Take a moment to be still and close your eyes, and just breathe in His love for you. Believe it and open up to receive His forgiveness into your heart and mind.
