Thoughts Are Power

Our thoughts are powerful. They control our emotions, our attitude, our appearance, our self-worth…EVERYTHING!

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

We cannot control situations, people, or events in our life. But we can control our thoughts and how we choose to react. There have been and will be times in all of our lives when things do not go as we had hoped they would. This is something none of us can control.

What We Can Control

What we do have control over is our thoughts and the way we choose to react to those situations.

We can get angry, hurt, offended, and a number of other negative reactions, or we can choose to control our thoughts and learn from those negative situations.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

The first part of Romans 12:2 tells us not to be conformed to this world. It’s a warning to us not to act or think as the world does. Popular culture is in rebellion against God, and it will try to conform us to its ungodly pattern, and as Christians we have to resist the temptation to fall in line with what is popular.

We Can Be Transformed

But be transformed: This literally means: a metamorphosis, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. The same origin of the word is used in Mark 9:2-3.

Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.

As we transform (become more like Christ), our thoughts also transform.

by the renewing of your mind

This is the opposite of being conformed to this world. The battle ground between conforming to the world and being transformed is within our mind.

We MUST stay grounded in the Word.

We have to spend time with God every day–seeking His will and direction for our lives. If we become slack in spending time with the Lord, we become much more susceptible to negative thoughts and reactions.

Christians must think differently.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Many times we live life based on negative thoughts. We choose to gripe and complain about our job, our boss, our income, our looks, the bad hand we’ve drawn in life. This produces a foundation of fleshly reactions and thoughts.

We must strive to live our lives with spiritual thoughts and reactions, which grounds us in Christ. If we don’t, we will never transform our mind and live the life that God has planned for us. If our thoughts are always negative, there is no space for a renewing.

Prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God

We are Transformed

As we are transformed on the inside and our mind is renewed, it becomes evident on the outside, and others see the metamorphosis in our life because we are living in the acceptable and perfect will of God.

There is no better testimony than a Christian who doesn’t gossip or react in a negative manner, but instead chooses to have renewing thoughts, positive thoughts, thoughts that Jesus would have.

And the result?

Living a life in the acceptable and perfect will of God.
