Not only did He provide for her relationally with a new husband, but he provided for her financially, as well. Then He blessed her with a son!
Ruth 2:12 says, “May the Lord reward your work, and your wages be full from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge.”
The word “wings” has an interesting Hebrew meaning: to project laterally. That’s exactly what wings do. They spread out laterally to provide protection for their young.
Just like wings, the word “lateral” refers to our relationships with one another—the family of God. As believers of Jesus Christ, we have come under His wings for refuge, which means protection and provision.
The Wings of Refuge
Within His family in the House of God, we have everything we need. He has given everyone gifts and abilities, which benefit each one of us in a perfectly balanced community. You could call it a Holy Communion—a lateral connection under the Lord’s covering.
As we seek refuge under His wings, He rewards our faith and loyalty to Him and to one another. May our wages be full from the Lord.
Everything we need is in Him. Whether we’ve been through a devastating loss, or are experiencing one now, God is faithful. He rewards our work, and He rewards our faith—our loyalty to Him.
