Psalm 30:11-12 (NKJV)
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, 12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
Bible Commentary
Psalm 30:11-12 is from the songbook of the Bible and an expression of worship and thanksgiving at the dedication of the house of David.
Earlier in this Psalm, David confessed that his heart trusted in his prosperity more than God. When God made his “mountain stand strong,” and “hid his face from him,” he became troubled. (Psalm 30:6-7).
David was going through something very difficult, something so serious it caused him to face his own mortality. In his despair, he desperately cried out to God (Psalm 30:8-10).
Have you been there, or are you there right now…desperately seeking God?
Whatever it is, God’s got it in His hand. He is in full control. He desires only good for us, even when it feels painful and seems hopeless. We try to discern the outcome, clinging to any glimmer of hope for healing and life. But the evidence from our past cries out death, sickness and sorrow.
The Still Small Whisper of Life
The sound of death might be louder than the still small whisper of Life, but stand firm soldier! Jesus conquered death and the grave.
God said in Deuteronomy 30:19, “…I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”
Yes God is the ultimate Author and Finisher of our faith. Even if we believe and choose life, we might still lose a life here on earth. It has happened time and again. However, don’t give up the fight of faith. We might surrender to God’s perfect will, even if it is sickness or death–a very admirable trait that Jesus modeled for us–but friend, let’s make sure we’re surrendering to the Lord’s perfect will and not surrendering ourselves to death.
Unlocking the Truth – God’s Generosity
Instead of accepting death, let’s accept the death of Jesus Christ on the cross! There is a very subtle and fragile balance between faith, truth and surrender.
Surrender to Jesus, not death. Surrender to Jesus, not sickness. Surrender to Jesus Christ, not fear. Surrender to Christ, not separation.
There is no separation in Jesus Christ. He bridged the gap between the Father and us, between light and darkness, between holiness and sin and between truth and deception, and even between our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Look what happened in David’s life after he cried out to God for mercy.

Let’s put off our sackcloth—the resignation to sickness and death, and be clothed with gladness—the glorious covering of the Lamb of God.
Father, we thank You that Your generosity is far greater than our courageous martyrdom. We acknowledge that You desire to be glorified in life, not death. You delight in the beautiful acceptance of Your selfless gift and atoning sacrifice of Your Son Jesus Christ. We agree in Jesus’ Name to choose life, and we praise You and give You all the glory. In Christ’s Name we pray. Amen!
