Psalm 21:3 (NASB)
Psalm 21:3 (NASB) For You meet him with the blessings of good things; You set a crown of fine gold on his head.
Bible Commentary
Psalm 21:3 is a Bible verse in the Old Testament that describes our responsibility in our relationship with God. It begins by saying for you meet him with the blessings of good things.
It doesn’t say God brought blessings of goodness to David; it says God met him with blessings of goodness. God doesn’t just want to give us blessings, He wants us to meet Him part way. If God is only giving, there is no relationship there; it’s merely one-sided.
The Bible says God wants to give us the desires of our heart, but we have to align our desires with His and we have to do our part as well. How many times do we ask God for something and then move on, never spending time with Him, seeking Him and listening for His will for us?
Our time and devotion is what we give back to God. During these times alone with Him, He transforms our hearts and our minds to look more like Jesus Christ. This way, we have a real relationship with God. We begin to know Him and experience Who He is. We don’t have a very rewarding relationship with Him if we’re only taking and never giving.
For the last few years, one of my prayers is for God to show me His perfect will for my life, not His permissive will…His Perfect will.
We can force our own will for our lives and God will allow it. He won’t bless it, but He will allow it. To truly have the life here on earth that God designed for us, we have to submit to His perfect will for our lives. This is the only way we will experience the full joy God has for us.
A Crown of Fine Gold
The second part of Psalm 21:3 says You set a crown of fine gold on his head. David had many chances to kill Saul and take the crown for himself. After all, he had been anointed as King of Israel. But instead, David submitted himself and sought God’s direction. He waited for His perfect timing. Then when God knew David was ready, He crowned him king.
God promised David he would be King, but that didn’t mean it would happen overnight. Just because God promises us something doesn’t mean we will receive it immediately.
Almost all of the time there is a waiting period, some much longer than others. When God promises us something He then begins to put things into action, He begins to prepare us to be able to handle the promise. We may think we are ready and spiritually mature enough to handle it, but God knows the truth.
We get into trouble when we try to force it in our own time instead of waiting on God’s perfect time. There have been so many times that I would get out in front of God and try to force things to happen in my time and sometimes it worked, but only briefly. It never lasted.
When God makes us a promise, it is going to happen. God doesn’t lie! But we have to stay connected to Him, submitting to Him and listening for His guidance, waiting on His perfect timing. Then when God has everything in place His promise will be fulfilled in our lives.
