Bible Commentary
John 14:6 is a famous Bible verse in the New Testament where Jesus is telling His disciples how to find Him.
This popular Bible verse has been used countless times to bring a lost soul to a saving knowledge of grace in Jesus Christ, but it is also used to renew faith and strength for believers along a difficult path in life.
Have you ever been in a situation where you felt down and out and just didn’t know what to do, where to go, or what to believe? Maybe it’s now. You’re at a point of disillusionment, confusion, anger or pain, and you need something solid to hold on to.
Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
It is easy to become discouraged, especially when all we seem to get is loss after loss, or disappointment after disappointment. We yearn for something more. We desperately want and need a victory.
I Am
The first two words of John 14:6 are I am. These are the words God used to describe Himself in Exodus 3:14, “And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
· Some Hebrew meanings of I AM from the Exodus verse are: to exist, be or become, come to pass, beacon; to breathe.
· The Greek meaning of “way” in John 14:6 is: a road, a progress, a mode or means.
· The word “truth” in the Greek means: true (as not concealing).
All three of these word phrases and their meanings point to a Supreme Being, God of the universe. He is a beacon, a light that shines within each one of us, showing us the way on the road towards truth, where nothing is concealed.
