Isaiah 22:21 (ESV)
and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your sash on him, and will commit your authority to his hand. And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.

Bible Commentary
Isaiah 22:21is a Bible verse in the Old Testament where Isaiah is prophesying about the removal of the kingdom authority of the day and in its place, the rising authority of Jesus Christ.
God uses an interesting analogy to describe His removal of current authority. He describes it in Isaiah 22:25 like this, “In that day, declares the Lord of hosts, the peg that was fastened in a secure place will give way, and it will be cut down and fall, and the load that was on it will be cut off, for the Lord has spoken.”
Before Jesus began His ministry on earth, the Romans held governmental authority over the Jews, and the Jewish religious leadership held spiritual authority over the people. And now that we await the return of Christ, there are again certain governmental authorities and spiritual authorities in place.
Governmental laws and legislation have great influence over the workforce of nations, which of course affect each one of us economically. There are also spiritual authorities at work in every church–seen and unseen. These also have great influence over the people of Christ.
The effects of those authorities—good and bad—trickle down, flowing from the top all the way to the bottom, and everywhere in between.
God again uses the “peg” analogy to describe the Kingdom of God rising on earth, in Isaiah 22:23, “And I will fasten him like a peg in a secure place, and he will become a throne of honor to his father’s house.”
Unlocking the Truth – The Rise and Return of Christ
In preparation for the return of Christ, God is at work in the unseen, the spiritual forces. In Hebrews 12:26, God says, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”
In order to replace one peg with another, something has to be shaken up—removed. He goes on to explain in Hebrews 12:27, “This phrase, ‘Yet once more,’ indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain.”
Again, the peg analogy: A peg is used to hang things on. In Matthew 22:40 (KJV), Jesus speaks of the greatest commandments—loving God with all our hearts, souls and minds (Deuteronomy 6:5), and loving others as ourselves—and says, “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Any peg (governmental or spiritual authority) not under Christ’s authority will be shaken up and removed, so that the Kingdom of God can rise in its place.
That is who God is talking to in Isaiah 22:21 when He says, “I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your sash on him, and will commit your authority to his hand.” He is stripping current authorities of their power and adorning His people with their authority.
God goes on to say, “And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.” God desires to govern His people like a loving father. You can see this in the Book of Judges in the Bible.
Because of what Christ did on the cross, overcoming sin and the spiritual authority of Satan on earth, the way has been paved for the Kingdom of God to rise. May we unite in Christ as He gathers us to Himself in these last days.
