Bible Commentary
Ephesians 6:13 is a Bible verse in the New Testament that tells us where we can find protection.
God designed a specific order where mankind could live safely and peaceably with Him and with one another. We can see this order in Genesis 2:15, which says that God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it. God created the perfect place and occupation for man. The Garden was the place He made for man to enjoy a rich relationship with Him and be fulfilled in the work He called him to do.
The word “garden” in Hebrew means: protect, defend, hedge about. The garden is where man was safe and secure, and where his work was rich and fulfilling.
God created the woman from the rib of the man (Genesis 2:21). She was designed to be covered and protected by her husband, just as the husband was designed to be secure in the Garden where He placed him.
In this perfect order man had the whole armor of God—His perfect design—fulfilled in relationships and work.
The Fruit
When Adam and Eve partook of the one thing that was forbidden to them—the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil–they pulled away from God’s protective armor (their relationship with Him and their work alongside Him), and exposed themselves to the dangers of the world (evil).
Before that, they had no knowledge of evil. After they sinned, God drove them out of the Garden (Genesis 3:24). Adam’s armor had been removed, and they were now exposed. There was now separation between them and God. There was a gaping hole in their relationships and in their work, apart from God.
By God’s grace, He sent His Son Jesus Christ, to be the perfect sacrifice to redeem man from his sins and be reconciled back to God the Father. Through Christ, we can have full restoration of the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6:13 says take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day…
Jesus Christ is our armor. We can take up the whole armor of God by asking Christ into our lives. The Greek meaning of “take up” is: receive up, take in. We can be protected from the evil of the world by putting on the whole armor of God—Jesus Christ, His Son. Hallelujah!
Unlocking the Truth – Breakthroughs
After we accept Jesus Christ and embark upon our spiritual journey with Him, with our participation in the process He begins to restore God’s perfect order into our lives, in our relationships and in our work.
In the paragraphs immediately preceding Ephesians 6:13, we are taught about God’s intended order in marriage, family and work relationships, beginning in Ephesians 5.
We are able to stand against the wiles of the devil when we live covered under the whole armor of God (His order in our relationships). Ephesians 6:11
For me personally, as I sought Him regarding my relationships, He revealed truths in my heart that needed to be dealt with. I had a lot of forgiving to do and a lot of repenting. Specifically, healing began to take place in my marriage.
As He gently molded our marriage into His design, our children benefitted. Because my husband and I took up the whole armor of God in our marriage, we began to see breakthroughs in our family. We saw God answering prayers about our children.
By submitting our marriage and children to His perfect will, we took up the whole armor of God. When the rain and storms came, we were able to withstand in the evil day. The armor of God protected our family from the devil’s fiery darts.
Breakthroughs
Though it has taken a long period of time, our family is also seeing breakthroughs in our work. As we submit our work to His perfect order, we are seeing gradual and continual breakthroughs under the armor of God.
He gently and gradually restores the blessings and abundance of the Garden as we walk with Him. We see miracles take place as we submit ourselves to His ordained order. Jesus made it possible.
Glory to God and Hallelujah!
By taking up the armor of God—His order in your relationships and your work—you can experience the fullness of His perfect design for your life and your family. No matter how messed up things might seem, He can bring healing and restore all that has been lost.
Study the Bible verse of Ephesians 6:13, and let us take up the whole armor of God through Jesus Christ so we may be able to withstand in the evil day, and may God’s intended order be restored to us and our families. Hallelujah!!
