Bible Commentary

Romans 15:13 is a Bible verse from the New Testament where Paul is enlightening his listeners of the abounding treasures of joy, peace and faith through the Holy Spirit.

This Bible verse includes some powerful words, which can enrich our souls and life here on earth. Let’s dig in to partake of the King’s riches.

The word “hope” in Romans 15:13 in Hebrew means: to anticipate, usually with pleasure; expectation, confidence, faith. It is defined in Webster’s like this: a feeling that what is wanted will happen; desire accompanied by expectation.

We hear the words hope and faith, but how do we get to a place of hope and faith? Look at the verse again. Does it tell us how to hope and believe? Or does it say the God of hope will do it?

Again at the end of Romans 15:13, Paul says for the second time that God will do it: through the power of the Holy Ghost.

You could listen to all the greatest inspirational and motivational material in the world or Google it till your fingers are numb, and still not come to a place of hope and faith without the Holy Spirit.

When you’re hit with a storm bigger than you are, you’ll quickly realize there are some things you have absolutely no power over. That’s when you need a Saviour.

Unlocking the Truth – Joy and Peace in Believing

The word “hope” is used two times in Romans 15:13. It is the leader of the power-packed words in this Bible verse.

Hope is more than believing in something we don’t see. It is expecting, having confidence, or even anticipating something before it happens. You’ve been given a glimpse of light at the end of a dark tunnel. You can see the way out. You know it’s going to be alright.

That is the Holy Spirit, or God of hope, Who is revealing the way—by His brightness. He illuminates His Presence within us, which shows us the way out of the tunnel of darkness.

Psalm 37 says, “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” Hope is faith, but with pleasure, or desire attached to it as the Hebrew meaning says. Faith is believing in what we don’t see.

Hope is our blind faith combined with the power of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit is the pleasure, or desire component. Just a glimmer of hope is enough to lift one out of depression, out of a dark place.

Ask the God of hope to shine His Light and Pleasure into the deep recesses of your soul…and believe. Study the Bible verse of Romans 15:13 and be resurrected in hope through the Holy Ghost.
