Bible Commentary
Matthew 5:9 is a Bible verse from Jesus’ famous Sermon on the Mount. It is comforting to see that all of the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 end with a rewarding result. We need to see light at the end of a dark tunnel.
The onslaught of the devil in these end times is fiercely powerful and extremely focused. He stirs up anger, resentment and offense between us, and attacks young and old alike wherever he can.
He is losing ground as the Son of Man rises through His people. The devil has “great wrath because he knows that he has a short time” Revelation 12:12. We can sense the heaviness of hostility in the air. It is stifling. Matthew 5:9 is more important now more than ever.
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called the children of God.
Though we get caught up in the emotional whirlwind of the fight, we must overcome our temptation to hurl insults or condemn in judgement. For we ourselves do the same things we condemn others for (Romans 2:1).
We desperately need the mercy of God…all of us.
One of the Greek meanings of the word “peacemakers” is: agree. That sounds like a tall order in this day and age. There may not be many things in the world we can all agree on, with different views, values and opinions, but we can all agree on the value of life.
God the Father created all of us and loves each one of us enough to send His Son to die for us (John 3:16). For this reason alone, we must pray for others as though we were praying for ourselves. In essence, we are.
Remember and Overcome
When disaster strikes, it kindles a love and compassion in people because it helps us remember and agree about what’s really important. Gifts are generously given in charitable love and sympathy.
And where there is love, there is God. And where there is peace, there is Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:14). As our Father, He helps His children agree. He helps us love like He loves.
That peace and compassion are within us. We just have to look past the rough stuff and access it from deep within by the power of the Holy Spirit, and ask Him to lead.
We are already blessed
We’re already peacemakers and we are already the children of God because we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We must simply remember the power and love of Christ within us, and draw on Him…continually.
Don’t let the devil win control over your emotions. Stand fast in the power of the Holy Spirit and call on the name of Jesus. That is how we overcome. That is how we can always be peacemakers and walk in the continual flow of blessings as the children of God.
Remember, God is bigger than the devil, and God’s love is exceedingly greater than the enemy’s most powerful tool. We are peacemakers in Jesus Christ!
