John 8:12 is a Bible verse in the New Testament where Jesus is teaching us where the hope or light of life is. To understand what Jesus is talking about, let’s take a look at the word “darkness” in this verse. The Hebrew meaning of darkness here is: dimness, obscurity.
Some definitions of the word “obscure” in Webster’s dictionary are: inconspicuous or hidden, not well known.
Have you ever felt that your work or role in life is empty or obscure (not well known or hidden), or that you’re just spinning your wheels, not accomplishing anything purposeful?
You are not alone. That’s what Jesus means in this verse by darkness. Ask yourself one very important question. “Who or what in life am I really following, or pursuing?”
Jesus said in John 8:12 that He is the Light and those who follow Him will not walk in darkness but have the Light of life. Notice here the word Light, with a capital L. When we acknowledge Him as King of our lives and follow Him, the Light of life begins to emerge from our own lives. The Light of Light—Jesus Himself—fills in all the emptiness and begins to rise up, like the morning sunrise.
Jesus is First. We are second. Together, we are champions.
