Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Bible Commentary

2 Corinthians 6:2 is a Bible verse that emphasizes that because of the Lord Jesus Christ now is the acceptable time of salvation.

As we grow from children to adults, we tend to put so much emphasis on what we will do in our educational training and jobs as we work toward our desired vocation. We become so “me” focused. It’s only natural, since we have to make a living in the world, we want to do something that we enjoy and get paid well for doing it.

However, here’s something we may not have considered before we started making decisions about our future: there is the world’s way (where Satan has ruled), and there is the way of the Kingdom (God’s way).

We might have a few different things we’d like to do in a vocation. For me, the deciding factor has come down to the path where I can see the money coming from. But is that the right thinking, the right motive? You see, writing and teaching the Word of God is my love and passion, but for me there has been no salary or income attached to that strength, so I have relied on a back-up strength in order to find a job that pays the bills.

My gift is in the Kingdom, but my living has been in the world (where Satan has ruled). How do we reconcile the two? How do we earn a living if our gifting does not provide it?

JESUS.

He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). When things don’t make sense and we have surrendered all we have to surrender and we still can’t see where the money’s coming from, there’s Jesus.

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

I believe God and His Kingdom has been making its way into the world, into our hearts, and into our work for a long time now. It makes quite a collision when righteousness meets wickedness. It has been painful, messy and uncomfortable. But now because of Jesus,

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

The Lord may have used us to make an entrance, then removes us so the right person can take over. There may be dual parts to your calling: one at home with family and another in the workplace. He may change one and not the other, or He might remove both and lead you in a completely new direction or back to a familiar work. Don’t be alarmed.

Jesus said, “It is I; do not be afraid. Matthew 14:27

His righteousness moves into all the places where man thought he could do it himself. And that can get messy as He reveals to us that we can do nothing without Him (John 15:5). Let us surrender our “do it myself” attitude buried in the depths of our hearts.

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

His heart is ready to burst with the gifts of His kindness and goodness toward us. May we get out of His way and allow Him entry into our hearts, our families and our work. His Kingdom has come and His will is being done in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
