Bible Commentary
John 3:16 is a famous Bible verse in the New Testament where Jesus is unveiling the greatest gift ever given. The reason John 3:16 is probably the most widely-memorized verse in all the Bible is because everyone is included in it.
For God so loved the world
There are occasions when we come across someone who has never heard of this verse or its truth. The greatest gift we ever received then turns into our greatest opportunity.
We received God’s amazing gift when we accepted His only Son as an atonement for our sins. We received His gift and we were saved. We share His gift with others and we are rewarded.
We have done well, being available for God to use as a vessel of light to shine into the darkness of another human soul. A vessel is used for filling up and pouring out. As we are filled with God’s gift of Jesus Christ, we can then pour that gift out to others.
This should be a continual motion–being filled up so we can keep pouring out. It’s not a one-and-done deal. John 3:16 says that God gave His only Son so that we could have everlasting life, an ongoing event.
Unlocking the Truth – Gift that Never Ends
As we focus on Jesus Christ, we are continually filled with His light. Then the pouring out is easy and joyful instead of being a burden.
Ministering to others only becomes a burden when we stop filling up. We have to keep going back to the well of living water. Then sharing God’s gift becomes perpetual in motion: we pour out on others; they receive and then pour out, and so on.
This perpetual motion is the eternal life connector, like a spiritual universal circuit that is working hard behind the scenes.
