The Armour of God

by Jean Bradley

When we become a Christian and ask Jesus Christ into our hearts, we enter into a battle, a spiritual battle, for which God has provided us with a uniform.

Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (NIV)

This uniform is vitally important for us to put on every day. It is one of the things we need to wear to win as God’s child. It also identifies us as a Child of God in the spirit realm.

This is important because when we gave our heart to Jesus Christ, we changed sides. We went from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Heaven, from darkness to light, from the kingdom of death and the grave, to the Kingdom of God. There are no grey areas in the spirit realm. “No man’s land” does not exist. In other words, people who believe they are on neither side are deceived; everyone is searching for something to fill the empty space inside of us that God put there for Himself.

Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 2:10,

‘and whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure’ (ESV).

King Solomon was the richest man ever and 1 Kings 10:14 tells us that he received 666 talents of gold each year as a base income. This would translate to about 1.5 billion a year! Wow!! He goes on to say (in Ecclesiastes 2:11)

‘Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun’.

Wow, that’s pretty shocking coming from such a wealthy man, but it gets worse! Vs 17 says:

‘So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind’.

Only God Fills the Void

That is because nothing in this life can fill the void that only God can fill! Nothing!

Psalm 42:2 says,

‘My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?’

and Isaiah 55:2-3 says,

Why do you spend money for what is not bread And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me, Hear and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you – The sure mercies of David.

So you see, people are searching far and wide, and remain unsatisfied until they come to the cross and give their lives to Jesus Christ. After we give ourselves to Christ, we must prepare ourselves with this spiritual armour.

Ephesians 6:10-11 tells us that we need to be strong in the Lord and in His power, not our power, His. We cannot fight the devil in our own strength, we will lose every time. We must put on the full armour of God, so that we can stand against the devil’s schemes!

Vs 12 tells us who we are fighting and who we are not. It says: our struggle is not against flesh and blood. In other words, we are not fighting against people, but against Satan and his evil kingdom. It tells us that it is rulers, authorities, against the powers in this dark world (2 Cor 4:4) and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm.

Vs 13 tells us again that we must put on our armour so that when the day of evil comes, we will be able to stand our ground. I have learned that when things are repeated in the Bible, we must take note! Vs 13 carries on to say that when we have done everything we know to do, we must stand on our faith and trust in Jesus, knowing that we are on the winning side!

Vs 14 tells us…click to continue.
