2 Corinthians 13:14 (NKJV)
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Bible Commentary
2 Corinthians 13:14 is a Bible verse from the New Testament, which is a comforting summation of Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth.
These three gifts are the primary make-up of Heaven, and the best we could ever hope to receive here on earth: 1) the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, 2) the love of God, 3) the communion of the Holy Spirit.
First, Paul blesses us with the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. One Greek translation for “grace” in this verse is: cheer, or calmly happy, or well off.
The other and more comprehensive translation is: graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude): – acceptable, benefit, favour, gift, grace, joy liberality, pleasure, thank (-s, -worthy).
Because of Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity and power to live in the fullness of all these meanings. Christ bridges the gap between where we are on earth and where we could be in proximity to God the Father, which brings us to the second blessing in 2 Corinthians 13:14,
The love of God.
Unlocking the Truth – Communion of Champions
There is nothing so powerful in all of creation as the love of the Father. He created us with all the precision and care of a loving Father Who dotes over His children.
The blood, which is life, is intricately woven through all of His creation, now and through the end of time. It brings all of us together in Him and His Son, Jesus Christ.
The third and maybe the most mysterious of the gifts of God, is the Holy Spirit. Note in 2 Corinthians 13:14, Paul blesses us with the communion of the Holy Ghost. “Communion” in the Greek means: partnership, participation, intercourse, or benefaction: to communicate, distribution, and fellowship.
There are a number of ways we can come together. It can be verbally in communication, being of one accord in our minds, or it could be a partnership of the wills, an agreement to move together in a particular direction. Or it could be a more intimate union between husband and wife.
Whatever the arrangement, that communion (or connection) is where the Holy Spirit has power to work in and through us.
–This is where miracles are birthed.
–This is where God shows up on the surface.
–This is where love is…pure love.
God’s Order is Divine
You see, the grace of Jesus Christ and the love of God is required for that connection, or communion to take place. Paul said it in this order for a reason.
2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Notice the word “distribution” in the Greek meaning of “communion.” When we come together in our minds and wills, the power of the Holy Spirit is unleashed through the bond of those who participate in the communion, and then distributed beyond it.
There are no bounds to what can be accomplished through a coming together (communion) of the minds in Jesus Christ. Our differences and divisions have kept us bound and the power of the Holy Spirit bound.
But no more.
In Jesus Christ, we are one with God the Father. Together, we are Champions in Him and for Him.
