Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Bible Commentary

Psalm 119:105 is a famous Bible verse that describes the importance of the Word of God in our lives.

Do you find yourself constantly wondering what your future holds? If we could only see down the road, we would know whether to choose this path or that one. We want so much to make the right decision.

We somehow believe that only one of those decisions is the “right” one—the right college, the right job, the right apartment or house, that if we choose the “wrong” one we lose out on the blessings and favor of God.

Not so. Jesus Christ promised to be with us always, even to the end of the world. (Matthew 28:20)

Of course, we should seek His will for our lives, especially with big decisions, but we mustn’t get hung up with anxiety if we don’t hear a clear direction from Him. He is silent at times.

Maybe that’s why Psalm 119:105 is so popular. It tells us that He gives us enough light for the next step.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

A lamp can be held out far enough to light up the next few steps in front of us, but not enough to see what’s at the end of the path. God designed it this way, so we would learn to lean on Him and His Word, and not on ourselves.

Unlocking the Truth – Word Feast

We are not strong enough to hold tomorrow. He gives us enough strength and enough of whatever we need for TODAY.

Matthew 6:33-34 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

If we’re always striving to take care of tomorrow before it arrives, we get worn out—emotionally and physically. Again, He gives us what we need one day at a time.

His word is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path. He is always there for us.

It’s okay to plan and set goals for the future, of course. But if we’re trying to solve tomorrow’s problems today, we’re taking the Father’s responsibility upon ourselves, which is far too heavy for us to bear.

He promised to take care of us. We are His children. Everything we need to know is in God’s Word. That is where He speaks to us, comforts us, heals us, encourages us and even convicts us.

We need ALL of Him. And He wants ALL of us.

Let us praise Him for His wonderful Word, for all It is and for all It does. It is nourishment for our souls and for our bodies. Let’s feast on it like the Bread of Life, and drink it in like the Living Water, for it is.
